Under Customs laws all airsoft are considered firearms, not toys. Furthermore, there is currently a review of the legislation surrounding airsoft underway, and as such, no import permits are to be issued for these items until such time as the review is complete, and the results are known.
The current laws allow you to continue to possess the airsoft gun you have already purchased.
"Hi *******,
The legislation surrounding airsoft guns in SA is currently under review. While this review is happening, we will not be issuing any import permits for airsoft, as the legalities surrounding possession may well change.
I imagine this review will take a few months, after which we will have to work within the new legislation.
We will be able to answer your questions effectively once the review is done, meanwhile, do not import any airsoft, as import permits for them will not be issued from our branch.
Kind Regards,
Donna Edwards

Having a quick browse on AAC’s website, found the above quote (from somebody on their FB page). It’s unconfirmed, however if true these changes would be a major step back for Airsoft legalisation in Australia.
Please, if you have the ability to check the validity of these claims and hopefully get some more information on the possible changes, let us know immediately in this topic or personal message.
