Announcements / Come to the Forum!
« on: November 18, 2011, 11:46:48 AM »
Hey team!

Currently we have a steady flow of new members to the forum, however we still don't have enough! With over 4000 members on the Facebook groups we only have a bit over 200 members on this forum.

Tell all of your friends and people that you know are interested in Airsoft in Australia to head on over to the forum and they can discuss their interest here. The reason we would like our member base on here is for several reasons including -

- Unlimited member base, Facebook seems to have a 4000 member limit count. The more people we have on this the more leverage we have!

- All of your questions and answers are documented for other members to see, unlike Facebook where your question can appear 4 lightyears down the wall in a few days where people will never see it.

- Promotes an active community and knowledge base for everyone to get to know each other and find out the latest news in Airsoft Australia!

Post this link of your Facebook wall or email it to your friends!
http://www.airsoftaustralia.com.au/community/index.php

Remember, the more exposure we get the faster we can get this amazing sport through the doors to Australia! We CAN NOT do this without YOUR help. We value our members very much and appreciate all of your support! Help us help you to get Airsoft in Australia!

Martin

Hi CJ

I hate to burst your bubble however "Airsoft Wargames" are a long way away from being legalised in Australia. Because the government isn't very keen on having people shooting at each other with look-alike firearms, we are going with a less aggressive approach. As much as we would all love Milsim type Airsoft, it is just not plausible at this stage.

We are taking baby steps, as one wrong move could turn our entire association to rubble. A video will be released some time this week/next week to explain what exactly our aim is and what we have achieved so far.

Very informative, thank you Arvardos!

WW2 airsoft would be very very cool. I've always wanted to do a a large scale beach raid (such as omaha beach - good old battlefield 1942).

Rifle - Lee-Enfield Mk III
Sidearm - Browning HP
Close Combat - Ninja Stars (obviously very relevant to the WW2 warfare.....)

Hi Team! Once again we need the help of our loyal members. In the upcoming weeks a video will be released as to what exactly we are doing on the legislation front, however in the mean time we need YOUR help.

We need you to find out what Airsoft Target Shooting consists of internationally. Aspects such as the recommended distance to target, target size, fps required, indoor or outdoor ranges etc. We are currently finding out information regarding this, however with the help of all of our members this will speed up the process tenfold. Ask your friends or overseas contacts that can offer some info, the more the better!

Please post all of your findings as a reply to this post in the forum and not Facebook, as we can then document your findings and implement them into our current plan.

What is your opinion? Do you think it would ruin the "realistic" feel to the game? Do you think it is a sensible idea so the public know what they really are? What are your thoughts? Let us all know!

We are a nanny nation unfortunately :( Not enough political back bone in our government. If someone from the public starts having a whinge about something, BOOM and its changed or they might possibly loose a few votes. Who cares if it ruins Australia and its people in the process.

Typical example - live stock export
A couple of greenies have a whinge about a very one sided story and BAM all export of live cattle is banned to Indonesia. There were thousands of cows killed because farmers couldn't afford to keep them, there were farmers that killed themselves because they had lost their entire life's work...

Who is going to help change this? WE ARE! :)

Yes that is fine :)

This is a great idea! Let everyone around the world hear from players from other countries to see what it is like. I can start putting something together, however would you like it to be about the progress of Airsoft in Australia from day one or what we are currently doing at the moment?

Where Airsoft Australia is heading / Re: Airsoft Movement
« on: September 04, 2011, 11:42:39 AM »
It would seem the main concern is the resemblance to real lethal firearms and the possibility of criminal acts using Airsoft toys. While I agree that 2-tone or clear plastics might be a good idea, people have contested that painting over these toys would be a simple process.

However if these toys have the same laws and registration processes for that of lethal firearms, why would a criminal use an Airsoft gun?
They might as well use a cap gun or water pistol if they want a cheaper alternative to a real firearm, there even exists metallic lighters shaped as guns all of these can be purchased by just about anyone. At the end of the day a criminal is just that, an individual seeking money or goods by illegal actions.
There fore it's permissible to say that criminals will use any means necessary to achieve their goal. Saying that introducing Airsoft will make crime rates rise is ridiculous,  After researching crimes involving Airsoft the only published stories I found were involving those under the age of 20 and in countries with much more lenient firearms laws (Mostly the U.S)
It doesn't matter if the criminal is using a knife, a gun or even a bat. They are still using a threatening weapon in public.

Luffy i couldn't agree with you more! If someone really wants to get a gun to commit illegal activities, they will get one regardless of the strict firearms laws here in Australia. Sure regulating firearms is a great idea, its just I feel that Australia has gone overboard due to public demands (media scare -Port Arthur)

The most common arguement "Guns don't kill people, PEOPLE kill people" is very true. You could kill someone with a car, so are they going to go and ban cars? No they aren't. Why? Because they make SO MUCH GOD DAMN MONEY OFF THEM. Because the firearms lobby in Australia is so small (Compared to the US) and only a small percentage of Australian's actually own a firearm, the government doesn't make much money off it therefore they wont lower the legislation easily.

My thought is that Milsim IS an enjoyable recreation, I see it no different from paintball, and that is what should be put into the minds of the government and public: that it is just as harmless to society as paintball is.

Key phrase "My thought". Unfortunately a majority of the public will see the complete opposite to you and I when it comes to
Airsoft because they simply don't know enough about it.

Example - If we try for semi/fully automatic Airsoft weapons and the media take it the wrong way our entire cause will be greatly impaired. Stupidly we have been forced to think that the media are the know all and end all of knowledge and will strongly influence people's opinion of Airsoft. If we start off small, the media will have minimal evidence to go off to put Airsoft in bad light and we will slowly grow, easing them and the public into acceptance of Airsoft in Australia. Better to slowly grow than to not grow at all :)

Currently the government is trying to make the firearms laws even stricter (thank the good old greens) so if we are going to even have a slight chance we are going to have to creep our way into legislation with small propositions. We can't go up and say "hey Julia, wanna make airlift legal so i can go buy a bazooka and a .50 cal airsoft turret?"

This will be no easy feat and will take time, however it will be achieved. You just have to have patience. :)

What minimum age do you think you should be to play/own Airsoft? It would be interesting to find out what the community thinks as an appropriate age due to different age restrictions on different sports.

Currently in Queensland you need to be these certain ages in order to participate.

Firearms - 11 years
Paintball - 15 years
Airsoft - ????
